The proposal was submitted by Fukang Technology, a subsidiary of Foxconn, for the installation of emissions treatment systems at its expanded MacBook and iPad production line in the province, as part of a $500 million investment.
Foxconn, Apple’s primary manufacturing partner, has been steadily increasing its investments in Vietnam.
According to the report, several assembly lines have already been completed, but the emissions treatment systems still need to be installed. These additions are a requirement from Apple to meet environmental protection standards and must be approved by local authorities. The project was granted a production licence for tablets, laptops, and motherboards in February.
The Fukang Technology factory, situated in Quang Chau Industrial Park (IP) in Bac Giang, represents an investment of over VND12.5 trillion (approximately $500 million). The facility is expected to produce over 16 million tablets and laptops annually.
Most of the raw materials for these products are imported from China, the United States, Japan, and South Korea, with Vietnam supplying smaller components such as screws and front-facing lenses.
Foxconn’s presence in Vietnam dates back to 2007, when it launched its first factory in Que Vo IP in Bac Ninh province. Since then, the company has expanded its footprint, with factories in Que Vo, Dai Dong, Hoan Son, and several VSIPs in Bac Giang and Quang Ninh.
Foxconn now operates across five provinces in Vietnam, employing 80,000 workers and with a total investment of approximately $4 billion.
