Apple faces compensation of up to 1.5 billion pounds

Accordingly, the lawsuit has lasted for 4 years and the plaintiff requests compensation worth up to 1.5 billion pounds. And next week, Apple will appear in court in London to face this lawsuit.

The lawsuit, filed by academic Rachaek Kent, alleges that Apple has violated UK and European law by charging iOS users to download apps and taking a commission of up to 30% from these transactions. This fee is much higher than other competitors.

This scholar argues that: The App Store has become the only channel for millions of consumers to download applications, so Apple is playing a monopoly role. 

Under UK law, in class actions, all potentially affected persons are automatically included in the proceedings and may receive compensation, unless they voluntarily withdraw from the proceedings.

Critics say Apple’s high commissions have stifled the business growth of many small developers and content providers.

The European Union has taken the first steps to address this sensitive issue. Currently, app developers in the EU market pay Apple a 17% commission, and after a year, this will drop to 10% for most developers and subscribers.
